How to Use the
WheelNamer Wheel Spinner
A complete guide to every feature — from your first spin to advanced customisation and saving your wheel. Takes about 2 minutes to read.
Open the Wheel Spinner →Getting started — step by step
Open WheelNamer
Go to wheelnamer.com in any browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — on any device. No download, no account, no payment. The wheel loads instantly.
Add your entries
Type names or options into the entries box on the left of the wheel. One entry per line. You can also paste a comma-separated list and WheelNamer splits it automatically. Or pick from 250+ preset categories using the Categories dropdown.
Spin the wheel
Click or tap anywhere on the wheel to spin it. On desktop, you can also press Ctrl+Enter. The wheel spins with realistic physics-based deceleration and highlights the winning entry when it stops. The winner is displayed in a clear popup.
Remove or keep the winner
Click "Remove" in the popup to take the winning entry off the wheel — ideal for raffles where you need unique winners. Or click "Keep" if you want the entry to stay eligible for future spins.
Add or remove extra wheels
Need more than one wheel? Click "+ Add Wheel" in the top toolbar to create another wheel — it starts empty, ready for its own entries, and gets its own name tab above the wheels. Switch between wheels by clicking their tabs, rename a tab by double-clicking it, and spin them all at once with "Spin All Wheels". To delete a wheel you no longer need, click the small red ✕ on its name tab.
Customise your wheel
Click any color swatch next to an entry in the Entries panel to set a custom color for that segment. Adjust the Duration slider in the toolbar for shorter or longer spins. Toggle sound on/off with the Sound button. All changes preview instantly.
Save your wheel
Use the Save Wheel button (top right) to save your wheel. Choose Save to Browser for quick access on the same device, or Save to File to download a file you can keep permanently. If saved to a network location such as OneDrive or Google Drive, you can load it on any device using the Import button.
Return to the homepage at any time
From any page on WheelNamer you can return to the homepage at any time by using your browser's Back button (or the Back navigation key) — or by clicking the WheelNamer icon in the top-left corner of every page:
All features — explained
Every feature in WheelNamer is free. Here's what each one does.
250+ preset categories
Countries, colours, sports teams, days, months, numbers, names, school subjects, and much more. Click Categories and pick a preset to load it instantly.
Remove after spin
Each winner can be automatically removed so they can't be picked again. Essential for raffles and draws with multiple winners.
Spin duration control
Set the spin from 3 to 30 seconds using the Duration slider. Short spins for quick decisions; long spins for dramatic reveals and live events.
Sound toggle
The wheel makes a satisfying tick as it spins and a cheer when it stops. Toggle these off for silent classroom or office use.
Save & import
Save your wheel to the browser or download it as a file. Import a saved wheel any time using the Import button. You can also import entries directly from a CSV or XLSX spreadsheet.
Custom segment colors
Click any color swatch next to an entry in the Entries panel to set a custom color for that segment. Each entry can have its own color, and your choices are saved with the wheel. Click "Reset colors" in the Entries panel header to return to the automatic palette.
Random Number Generator
Switch to RNG mode for numbers within any range. Includes a dramatic electronic display view. Controlled by the same Duration and Sound settings.
Dice & Coin Toss
WheelNamer includes a full dice roller (1–6 dice) and an animated coin toss with player rounds — all free.
Multiple wheels at once
Add as many wheels as you like with the "+ Add Wheel" button in the top toolbar. Each wheel has its own entries and name tab, and you can spin them individually or all together with "Spin All Wheels". Remove any wheel by clicking the small red ✕ on its name tab.
How random is the wheel, exactly?
Very. WheelNamer uses crypto.getRandomValues() — the same cryptographic-grade randomness used in encryption software and banking security systems. It sources entropy from hardware events inside your device (timing jitter, hardware interrupts), making it physically impossible to predict or reproduce.
The random number is used inside the physics simulation of the wheel, determining the initial spin force. This means the outcome is random at a fundamental level — not just which segment wins, but every frame of the animation that gets you there. No one — not even us — can know in advance what a spin will produce.
🪙 Multi-Player Coin Toss: a whole-school game in seconds
The Heads or Tails tool isn't just for picking who goes first. Switch on Multi-Player Mode and it becomes a classic party game that scales from a small group to an entire school assembly — and the setup takes seconds.
Setting up in seconds
Type the number of players, or — even faster — pick a saved wheel from the dropdown to import every name on it instantly. A class list, a department, a year group, or a whole-school register: if you've saved it as a wheel once, you can drop the entire roll into the game in a single click. Each name appears as a player ready to take part.
How the game works
Every player is assigned heads or tails — either randomly or by letting each person choose. The host then calls out the simple rule: "Hands on your head if you're picking heads, hands on your backside if you're picking tails." Players strike their pose. Then the master coin flips.
If the coin lands on heads, everyone with their hands on their backside sits down — they're out. If it lands on tails, everyone with their hands on their head is out. Each round halves the field on average, so a hundred players are down to a champion in seven or eight tosses. The tension builds with every flip.
Perfect for…
- School assemblies — pick the winner of a prize across the whole hall in minutes.
- Classroom warm-ups — get every student standing, moving and engaged.
- End-of-year events, sports days, summer fêtes — instant crowd participation.
- Team-building — a fast warm-up that works with any group size.
- Parties — drinks, raffles, choosing who goes first at anything.
Because the coin uses the same cryptographic-grade randomness as the wheel, every toss is genuinely fair — and because it all runs in the browser with no signups, you can fire it up on any screen in front of any audience. Save your class lists once, and you'll never set the game up by hand again.
